PHOTON ENERGY MANAGEMEN IN ORGANIC AND HYBRID PHOTOVOLTIC DEVICES
Current stateof-the-art organic and hybrid PV cells produce a photovoltage that is considerably less than isfeasible on the basis of thermodynamic principles. Solving this problem should lead directly to athreefold increase in overall cell efficiency. Although recent investigations have shed some lighton the reasons for the low photovoltage, researchers lack a clear understanding of the factors thatcontrol this parameter. Basic science investigations are needed to correlate the chemical andphysical properties of the active layers with their performance in operating PV devices.Sustained work in this area could have a substantial payoff in improved cell efficiency.Organic and Hybrid Photovoltaic Layers and Cell Architectures.
